Bjj Thursday

Good day for some standing guillotines.

I grab the back of their head with my right arm, in order to break their posture down. I control their right arm with my left, grabbing their arm around where their elbow is, controlling it back. I posture the top of my head into their neck, as to avoid a possible bite, as well as pushing them back. When they resist being pushed back, I snap their head down and to the left, under my left arm. My left arm comes up under their chin while I grab my left wrist with my right hand. I posture down to create more base, while lifting my left arm up into their neck. This is the Guillotine ?.

The defence is, when I am in a Guillotine, with the arm on their body side free, I swing it up and over their body, coming down their back along side their head. I drop my weight onto them through my arm. I block their hip with my other free hand. To avoid them pulling guard. I move my body around theirs, backing away from the side my head is on. This allows me to get a leg behind their leg, and sweep them to the ground. From here I want to dig my shoulder into their neck, putting my weight through the shoulder, with my weight up onto my toes. With the arm which is not cross facing them, I can then peel the guillotine off, and rotate my chest and head up to the sky.

Bjj Tuesday

Heel hooks..

While sitting, I want their right leg over my left. I will put my right foot under their right thigh, and my left foot on their left leg, not crossing the top of their leg. I will pinch my legs together to hold them, and push them away to have their ankle where I want it. I want their ankle under my left shoulder and I will use the bone of my left wrist to cut into their Achilles. With my left elbow pointing out, I will lift my wrist against their Achilles. I can put the sub on more by then wrapping my elbow back, and roll onto my left side, and I can then, if need be, look back moving the pressure to the top of their foot.

Sweep to heel hook:

While sitting with them standing, with hooks in, put my left elbow on the inside of my knee, and my left hand around the back of their knee. I push their right knee away, while pulling their left leg towards me. I can roll backward, while pulling the back of their knee into a heel hook. Then pushing my right hand against their right knee, I can sweep them.

Bjj Tuesday

Alright. Went over a huge amount of stuff re take downs and take down defence, then a baseball bat choke.

Take-downs:
  • Keep weight mainly on the front foot
  • Keep one hand low near the leading leg to defend against single leg take-downs.
  • keep elbows in tight
  • keep eye focus just above their eye level, level shifting as necessary
Take-down eg method (gi)
  • With my rear hand grab their collar.
  • Grab above my rear hand with my front hand on their collar.
  • Jerk them down maintaining tension at all times on their gi, moving backward to again the grip loosening. When they react by pulling up, switch to a single leg take-down, and lift their leg by their ankle.
Baseball bat choke
  • left hand goes deep in their collar, fingers out of the gi, thumb grabbing the collar.
  • Right hand goes fingers in the gi, thumb on the outside, bringing the right hand right up against the left.
  • rotating butt around towards them and moving my elbow against their throat, slowly sit down and roll them over you.
  • The choke can be finished from here.

All these methods really deserver a bunch of attention.

New Podcast: The Amp Hour

Just found out that Dave from EEVBlog has a podcast, The Amp hour, so that’s gone onto my podcast app (podcast addict).

It will join my other tech podcasts, Security Now, and Risky Business.. Along with dear leader Joe Rogans podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, and the primal Blueprint podcast. Also.. my audio podcasts, Group therapy, and others I sometimes listen to, Anjuna deep, a state of trance, Tiestos club life, Future sound of Egypt with Ali & Fila and Unity Radio with Orkidea..

This explains why I just ordered a 64GB SD card for my phone… Also Podcast Addict is great as it allows pretty fine grain control over downloading new podcasts and deleting old ones..

Bjj Thursday

Went over the sweep from guard again, but added a nice touch; if they post what to do. Also a better set-up for the sweep.

Set-up
  1. I have them in my guard. I will control their left arm, so grab it with my right arm. I put two arms onto their arm and push it to their belly. I’ll pull their elbow towards me with my left arm. Then I’ll smear my right arm across theirs and grab behind their right arm with my right. Smearing to prevent their hand from escaping, and holding their hand down with my elbow. I’ll then raise my hips. Drop them down while I drag their arm over to my right.
  2. In the same movement, I’ll grab an underhook with my left arm, I can lock my hands together now in a gable grip. If I shift my arms up their body, I can make the grip above their shoulder, weakening their left arm.
  3. Now I want to shift my position so that I can prepare my right leg to sweep them over, moving myself under them and making space to my left, for them to fall into.
  4. I can grab a deep hook on their right leg with my right arm, while holding a strong underhook with my left hand in their arm-pit
Sweep..
  1. Now I can sweep them, if this fails, I can move to plan B.
  2. If they post on their right leg, then I will need to switch.
  3. Only if I can’t sweep them, going as far as to almost pull them over my head I will switch.
I need to block their left arm from posting with my right arm and hook their right leg with my left, switching the sweep and sweeping them the other way.
  4. Done 🙂

I have a sore back, I’m going to up my Stron Bone intake tomorrow… Missed S&C this week -_-

Bjj Thursday – what is this flow

I had a feeling today would be ok. I meditated for half an hour before heading in; once again, my flow was like never before. I was thinking on the way home; while listening to the risky business podcast talking about exploits, how by challenging myself with the personal story which makes up the dynamic expression of my life; by having a challenge in balance; I find almost an idea of being behind the curtain; thats a very rare perspective.

=QMChap2_Page_02_Image_0001As I swept one of the guys and took mount, I said ‘this is weird’, how I was able to have patience and simply walk through open doors. This confusing dynamic makes up the observations I have been having during meditation; which is actually really fun. I noted today during meditation that there wasn’t a moment of “AAgghh boring cmon lets get on with it; what’s next.”

Perhaps the Primal diet is to thank for this cortisol/adrenal/thyroid balance. I’m not sure; I certainly feel the ‘carb crash’ has a causal mood response, so I’m going with it.

I left early, as I don’t want exhaust myself, that would would suck. I’m really hoping for a good shift on Saturday. I’m acting in all the ways I can think to maintain relative balance.

Today I didn’t learn any new moves, just pulled up sweeps from memory and enacted them. Excellent session. No more carbs/protein today, despite hunger.. what fats can I eat?

EDIT: I’m not really that hungry (well if I ate I would definitely trigger it. I think I’m in ketosis!). I feel I should not eat an avocado, but some walnuts and macadamias sound good. That will be over 14 hours of fasting.. 😀

Tired Bjj Tuesday

Low energy Bjj session which was none the less beneficial.

  • Learned an interesting sweep from guard.
From guard control one of their hands on my stomach.
This can be swept across their body and then wrap my leg over their head into an arm bar. Important to have a good amount of angle to their torso, ideally right angle.
Also possible to make a sweep. Before throwing my leg up and over, I can grab their leg with my free arm and sweep them. I should definitely practice this.
  • Defending standing back control.
They wrap their arms low around your waist, giving them the option to lift you for a throw/take down.
You drop your weight first, making life super difficult for them.
Grab both their arms and wrap a leg around their leg, after dropping.
Set up a kimora. Grab one of their arms with my opposite arm, say their right with my left. Move my right arm around behind their elbow. Dig my left thumb behind their arm, while moving back and forth to create space for my right arm to come behind theirs. Wrap my right hand onto my left wrist, setting up a kimora. Maintaining the grip while dropping. Once they let go, rotate around and sit down. I can pull them over my head while throwing their butt with my leg between their legs. Once they roll over, it is possible for me to take side control and kimora them. putting a leg over their head if need be.

Ketosis, low carb and fasting

I was keeping my carb intake pretty dam low for around the last week, between 50 and 100g per day (going off the food nutrition data I’ve been using).. aand I don’t think I was getting the required carbs, I’m going for 100 per day now, which I think will provide better satiation. I have been feeling low energy for the last few days which I’m not super happy about, I think I trained too hard last week and stressed my body too much, resulting in a cold and a cold sore…
I’ve stopped coffee, just 1 black tea in the morning = less cortisol stress from caffeine. No caffeine after 2 pm.. Less green tea as well since that is a stressor. I think the build towards being a ‘fat burning beast’ needs to be a slower one.

This is an interesting link on fasting, something to look into possibly, extending my fast from 11 hours daily around my sleep cycle to perhaps up to 24 as an experiment, when I already feel good as a starting point.

Just stumbled on this… The Low Carb Flu
